π£”A normal response to an abnormal situation”.
We have shared that statement so often with people who feel so much shame, self-loathing, + hopelessness about how they engage with themselves/the world.
The research on PTSD in the last couple of decades has been nothing short of REMARKABLE. Such a better understanding we now hold on what can causes trauma, why the body responds this way to threat, + how to rewire from the affects on our lives.
β We propose that when the name was coined (1980), it was seen as a disorder, because the brain + nervous system wasn’t understood nearly as well as it is today, 40 years later.
β PTSD (as well as C-PTSD) is actually a set of biological RESPONSES + programing that happens (naturally) in response to threats to emotional + physical safety.
β It is NOT abnormal to respond in this way….making the word “disorder” not the best description of what is occuring in the body + mind.
We think “post-traumatic-stress-response” is a much more scientifically accurate + compassionate framework to go off of when addressing bodies who experience PTSD.
